On\u00a026\u00a0August 2026,\u00a0Vabamu\u00a0hosted a\u00a0BaltHerNet\u00a0youth seminar, with a focus on participants turning their diaspora-related research interests into zines.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The day started with an introduction from Vabamu’s new CEO, Maarja Merivoo-Parro, about her own experience with diaspora research, and what non-academic forms it has taken \u2013 including tv programmes, books, CDs, and exhibitions (including Vabamu’s permanent exhibition Freedom Without Borders<\/em>). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After this, participants were given the opportunity to create their own zines.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what are zines? Zines are small, DIY, independent publications, in the form of a small booklet. The name comes from the word magazine. Zines can essentially take whatever form you want and are a great way to express yourself in a creative manner.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
